Affirm is seeking a remote Senior Software Engineer, Backend on the Post-Purchase International team to build scalable backend systems powering the end-to-end post-purchase journey across regions. The role collaborates with European engineering counterparts and global product teams from Spain.

You will own delivery goals, mentor engineers, and contribute to frontend tasks when needed, while prioritizing reliability, elegant design, and cross-team communication.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, building, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

The position is based in Spain and partners closely with European engineering counterparts and broader international product teams. The work centers on scalable backend systems that power the end-to-end post-purchase journey across regions.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly delivery goals and lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, building, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin
• Track record with highly available distributed systems built on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Enthusiasm for occasional front-end contributions (no prior front-end experience required)
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, extensible designs
• Proficiency making safe, large-scale changes in a sizeable codebase
• Strong written and verbal communication for collaborating across a global engineering team
• Self-driven growth mindset, actively seeking feedback from managers and peers
