Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team to shape systems powering post-checkout orders, captures, refunds, and settlement at scale. You will drive the technical direction, mentor engineers, and own critical decisions.

You will set strategy for a year, collaborate with product, design and analytics, and push for reliable, observable, and maintainable services across the platform. Remote-first with strong growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with distributed systems and API design in payments/commerce domains.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk awareness.
• Drive reliability, observability and on-call readiness across services.
• Advocate for code quality, design standards and maintainable systems.
• Mentor engineers and shape the technical direction of the Order Platform team.
• Own operations, monitoring, playbooks and incident response for uptime.
