Job summary

Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) is hiring Call Center Representatives (Communication Assistants) for its Telephone Relay Service. Positions are fully remote for Texas residents, with training beginning soon.

The role supports the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community by facilitating calls and ensuring accurate relay of information. Roles are offered full- and part-time with a starting wage of $14 per hour, plus potential salary increases, paid time off, and remote work stipends.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Type at least 60 words per minute with 95% accuracy.
• Able to work varied schedules including weekdays, weekends, overnights, and holidays.
• No sales, quotas, tech support, or customer conflict de-escalation.

Responsibilities

• Accept and place relay calls for consumers.
• Ensure the highest level of quality service is delivered to all consumers.
• Hear audio and listen to spoken words, and transcribe to text on a computer.
• Read aloud messages the device user types to the other party and type the other party’s messages.
• Translate written ASL messages to conversational English.
• Convey caller’s feelings and emotions through voice inflection.
• Relay contents of the call as accurately as possible without intervening in the conversation.
• Maintain TRS quality standards for accuracy and speed.
• Report any identified technical issues to appropriate staff.
• Maintain strict consumer confidentiality during and after employment.
