Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC (SSG) is seeking a Production Support Engineer for a remote role. The position requires 8+ years in production systems, strong cloud (AWS/Azure) experience, and Linux/Windows expertise.

You will support complex cloud applications, automate tasks, and ensure security and reliability. Ideal candidates will have hands-on scripting, IaC, CI/CD, and monitoring tool knowledge, plus excellent communication for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud (S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch).
• Proven track record of managing large-scale production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
• Experience with system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and monitoring.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
• Knowledge of CloudFormation and IaC concepts.
• Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Science Logic).
• Understanding of networking basics, VPNs and security best practices.
• Experience implementing secure production environments and compliance controls.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level operational support for complex cloud-based systems.
• Develop solutions for routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Document issues and resolutions in logs and discrepancy tools.
• Work with customers on day-to-day activities and escalations.
• Maintain and install computing infrastructure with standard procedures.
• Support on-call rotations and incident management.
• Ensure adherence to VA security policies and procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of IT systems and processes.
