Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert to drive complex payroll tax resolutions and governance. You will own SOPs, coach staff, and provide the primary resource for escalations across TP1-TP3, ensuring compliance and data-driven risk mitigation.

The role emphasizes leadership in process improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and oversight of critical tax notices. Remote flexibility may apply with a strong focus on accuracy and SLAs.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in payroll tax with focus on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Lead/SME experience with coaching or training junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax regs including PFML/SDI and local municipal tax rules.
• Advanced writing to create and review SOPs and technical docs for tax processors.
• Ownership of SLAs; ability to identify red flags and resolve blockers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly formal coaching sessions using the SBIC model.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and stand-ups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; advise staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across states and audits.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify systemic trends and risks; communicate with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with a compliance-focused mindset.
