Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor within Payroll Tax Operations to act as the go-to expert for complex tax issues across multiple jurisdictions. You will own SOP governance, provide coaching, and drive improvements in team capacity and compliance.

The role emphasizes independent escalation resolution, formal SOP approvals, and leadership in continuous process optimization while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on complex tax defect resolution, notice response, and multi-state filings.
• Previous formal lead/SME experience with coaching or training junior staff.
• Advanced writing skills to create and review SOPs and technical documents for a tax processor audience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, TP3 staff and educate resolution paths.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions at least quarterly to close skill gaps.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and daily stand-up backups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog reduction, and aging reports to guide staffing.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across states with audit trails.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with proper reconciliation.
• Identify risks and Known Issues and report with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings and maintain compliance integrity.
