Job summary

Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Lead Tax Processor to act as a SME for payroll tax operations. You will resolve the most complex escalations, govern SOPs/KB, and coach the team to build capacity with structured routines.

The role focuses on high-stakes tax defect resolution across multiple states, promoting compliance and process improvements while guiding staff through advanced resolution paths and governance. This is an hourly, part-time to full-time leadership role based in California.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on complex tax defect resolution, notice response, and multi-state amendments.
• Lead/Senior/SME experience with coaching or mentoring staff through nuanced resolution scenarios.
• Expert knowledge of tax regulations across US jurisdictions, including local and state programs.
• Advanced writing to create, review, and approve SOPs and technical documents for a tax-processor audience.
• Solid ownership of SLAs, red flags, and proactive workflow problem solving.
• Validation-first mindset; present vetted solutions and alternatives to leadership.
• 5+ years handling highly sensitive escalations with minimal supervision.
• 4+ years in contact center or back-office operations handling high-volume needs.
• Comfortable with testing AI tools to improve team workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary real-time technical expert for TP1/TP2/TP3 staff and teach resolution paths to build team capability.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or back up team huddles, QA sessions, and Daily Stand-Ups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; recommend staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices including IRS discrepancies across jurisdictions.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with complete audit trails.
• Identify trends and compliance risks; communicate findings with data-driven responses.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with risk-informed alternatives.
