Job summary

Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and SME to drive critical payroll tax initiatives in a technical leadership capacity. You will resolve the most complex escalations, govern SOPs, and coach the team to build capacity.

You’ll own SOPs, support cross-functional risk discussions, and act as the go-to technical expert for TP1–TP3 staff, while ensuring compliance and audit trails across multi-state tax matters.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focused on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as lead or SME with coaching or training junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US payroll tax regulations across all jurisdictions, including local municipal tax systems and state programs.
• Advanced writing skills to create and approve SOPs and technical documents for a tax processor audience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time go-to technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff, teaching resolution paths to build team capability.
• Own the authoring, technical review, and formal approval of SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions at least quarterly with team members using SBIC feedback model.
• Lead or contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and daily stand-ups as backup facilitator.
• Maintain oversight of team WIP, backlog, and aging reports to inform staffing adjustments.
• Resolve the most severe State and Federal payroll tax notices, including multi-quarter IRS cases.
• Approve highly complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify systemic trends and Known Issues, communicating findings with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings and provide risk-informed alternatives.
