Job summary

SelectTime is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and SME to steer Payroll Tax Operations. You will own complex tax defect resolution, approve SOPs/KBs, and coach teams through structured sessions. You’ll manage escalations, QA, and aging reports, ensuring compliant operations across states while collaborating with cross-functional partners.

This remote role offers flexible hours with overtime eligibility. Expect to drive improvements using AI tools and maintain strong governance over processes and SLA

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focusing on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Lead, senior specialist, or SME experience with coaching junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax payment and filing regulations across US jurisdictions, including local taxes.
• Advanced writing skills to create and approve SOPs and technical docs for tax processors.
• Strong ownership of SLAs, identifying red flags early.
• Experience handling highly sensitive escalations with minimal guidance.
• 5+ years in contact center/back-office operations handling high-volume needs.
• Comfort with testing AI tools to improve team workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1/TP2/TP3 staff and coach teammates.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC feedback model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or back up daily stand-ups and team huddles.
• Oversee WIP, backlog reduction, and aging reports; suggest staffing changes.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices (IRS/state cross-jurisdictional).
• Approve complex amended returns (Federal/State) with audit trails.
• Identify trends and risks; communicate data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings and provide risk-informed options.
