Job summary

Intuit, Inc. seeks a Lead Tax Processor and SME in Payroll Tax Operations to drive critical initiatives, own the most complex resolutions, and govern SOPs. This technical leadership role requires independent handling of escalations and building team capability.

As a SelectTime virtual expert, you will work 20–40 hours weekly with flexible hours, overtime-eligible and remote. You will coach staff, review processes, and ensure multi-state payroll compliance across the tax landscape.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with multi-state filings.
• Experience as lead, SME, or coach for junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax regulations across states and local taxes.
• Experience authoring and approving SOPs and technical docs.
• Strong ownership of SLAs and escalation management.
• Experience handling highly sensitive escalations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff and teach resolution paths to build team capability.
• Own authoring, technical review, and formal approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using the SBIC feedback model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and update performance boards; backup for Daily Stand-Ups.
• Oversee WIP, backlog aging, and staffing recommendations to management.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices (IRS/state) and multi-quarter issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal/State returns with audit trails.
• Identify trends and risks; communicate with data-driven responses to stakeholders.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings and provide risk-informed alternatives.
