Job summary

SelectTime is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert (Level X5) to act as a technical leader for payroll tax operations, resolving the most complex issues and governing SOPs. This remote, hourly role offers overtime eligibility and flexible hours with 20–40 hours weekly.

You will mentor staff, own SOPs and KBs, run quarterly coaching, and oversee WIP/backlog while ensuring compliance across multi-state filings for Intuit customers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years payroll tax experience with complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as lead/sme with coaching or training junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax payment and filing regulations across US jurisdictions.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical documents.
• Strong ownership of SLAs and proactive issue resolution.
• Validation-first mindset with data-driven recommendations.
• 5+ years handling highly sensitive escalations independently.
• 4+ years in contact center/back-office operations.
• Comfort with AI tools to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary, real-time go-to technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff.
• Own authoring, technical review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions at least quarterly using SBIC feedback model.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and stand-up facilitation when needed.
• Maintain oversight of WIP, backlog, aging reports, and staffing recommendations.
• Resolve the most severe payroll tax notices in the queue, including IRS/state issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify systemic risks and communicate findings with data-driven responses.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with risk-informed options.
