Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert for Payroll Tax Operations. This role handles the most complex escalations, owns SOPs and knowledge base governance, and coaches the team to build capability. You will be the primary technical resource for TP1-TP3 staff and guide process improvements.

The hourly, non-exempt position offers overtime and a flexible 20–40 hour weekly schedule, with opportunities to scale based on business needs.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in payroll tax with complex defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax regulations across jurisdictions and local taxes.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical documents.
• Ownership mindset with proactive problem solving and SLA focus.
• 5+ years handling sensitive escalations independently.
• Experience in contact center or back-office operations handling high volume work.
• Comfort with testing AI tools to improve team workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time tech expert for TP1-TP3 staff and resolve complex questions.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles across operations.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions to close skill gaps.
• Lead team huddles and updates; back up Daily Stand-Ups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; recommend staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices and cross-jurisdictional penalties.
• Approve complex amended returns with audit trails and ledger reconciliation.
• Identify compliance risks and communicate data-driven responses.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings with risk-informed options.
