Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Cultural Resources Technician 1 to support projects across the mid-Atlantic and Midwestern regions. This technician will identify, excavate, and record potential archaeological sites following state archaeological standards.

The position is part-time with remote work options. It involves outdoor fieldwork, precise note-taking, photos/maps, and travel as needed to collect and document cultural resources in accordance with project requirements.

Qualifications

• Associates or better in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or related field.
• Enrolled in field school or has equivalent field experience.
• Experience with excavation, screening, and recording archaeological materials.

Responsibilities

• Follows health and safety policies per GAI, client, and OSHA.
• Excavates, screens, and collects archaeological materials according to state standards.
• Identifies and records archaeological features and structures within project right-of-way.
• Photographs and maps survey areas, testing locations, excavations, and resources.
• Completes paper and/or electronic field forms accurately.
• Records soils using a Munsell soil chart.
• Uses a compass for basic navigation within project areas.
• Works outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Hikes and carries tools and equipment as needed.
