Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Cultural Resources Technician 1 to support projects across the mid-Atlantic and Midwestern regions.

The role involves identifying, excavating, and recording potential sites following state archaeological standards, with responsibilities that include fieldwork through Phase I–III investigations. The position requires 1–2 years of archaeological field experience, ability to work outdoors, and travel up to 100% during weekdays with some weekends.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in archaeological fieldwork.
• Associates or better in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Identify and record archaeological features and materials.
• Excavate, screen, and collect archaeological materials per state standards.
• Take field notes and complete forms (paper/electronic).
• Sketch maps and basic photography of survey areas.
• Record soils using a Munsell chart and use a compass for navigation.
• Work outdoors in varying weather and travel as required.
