Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Cultural Resources Technician 1 to support projects across the Southwestern region. This role will identify, excavate, and record potential sites following federal/state archaeological standards, supporting Phase I–III investigations.

Pre-employment drug testing is required. The position involves outdoor fieldwork, data recording, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or related field.
• Enrolled in field school or equivalent hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

• Follow health and safety policies per OSHA and client requirements.
• Maintain client confidentiality.
• Excavate, screen, and collect archaeological materials per standards.
• Identify and record archaeological features and structures in project areas.
• Photograph and map survey areas, testing locations, and excavations.
• Complete field forms (paper/electronic) accurately.
• Record soils using a Munsell soil chart.
• Use a compass for basic navigation within the project area.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Walk 8–10 miles daily while carrying tools/equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
