Job summary

Datavant is seeking an experienced Outpatient Coder to join our remote team. You will review records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accurate coding for Same-Day Surgery and Observation cases, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate holds AHIMA or AAPC credentials (CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, etc.), has 2+ years of coding experience in hospital settings, and is proficient with Epic and 3M. This role offers a flexible schedule and fully remote work.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials required (CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC or equivalent).
• 2+ years of hospital coding experience in a coding setting.
• Experience with Same Day Surgery and Observation coding.
• Proficiency with Epic and 3M or similar encoding systems.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign and sequence codes accurately based on documentation.
• Assign the appropriate discharge disposition.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistics and reporting.
• Communicate documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues for follow up.
• Maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate and 95% APC accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain credentials.
• Attend Datavant Health sponsored education meetings/in-services.
• Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in job duties.
• Communicate with staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Adhere to AHIMA’s code of ethics and maintain professionalism.
