Datavant is seeking an experienced outpatient coder to join our fully remote team. The ideal candidate has AHIMA or AAPC credentials and at least two years of hospital coding experience, including observation, injections/infusions, and same-day surgery.

Strong communication, time management, and HIPAA compliance are essential. The role emphasizes accurate coding, documentation improvement collaboration, and ongoing education to meet site productivity standards.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credential required.
• 2+ years of hospital or coding consulting experience.
• Proficiency in Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.
• Proficiency in Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, E/M leveling.
• Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable with remote work; good time management.
• Experience with encoding/abstracting software; HIPAA compliance testing.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Sequence codes based on documentation; determine discharge disposition.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital reporting.
• Communicate coding issues and opportunities for documentation improvement.
• Maintain high coding accuracy and APC assignment accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits and attend sponsored education meetings.
