Job summary

Datavant is seeking an experienced remote outpatient coder to join a healthcare data platform team. You will review records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accurate APC and billing data while maintaining high productivity.

Ideal candidates have AHIMA/AAPC credentials and at least two years of hospital coding experience, with strong communication and time management skills to work effectively from a home office.

Qualifications

• AHIMA RHIA/RHIT/CCS or AAPC CPC/CPC-H/COC/CIC/CRC credentials required.
• Minimum 2+ years of hospital coding or coding consulting experience.
• Proficiency in Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions, ED and E/M coding.
• Strong written and verbal communication; adept at remote work and time management.
• Experience with encoding/abstracting software and HIPAA testing.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate diagnoses and procedure codes.
• Sequence codes based on documentation and assign discharge disposition.
• Abstract data for hospital statistics and reporting.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and escalate for follow-up.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy and 95% APC assignment accuracy while meeting productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain credentials; attend Datavant health events.
• Communicate effectively with staff on clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Adhere to AHIMA code of ethics and deliver professional, dependable service.
