Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a senior SCADA Design Lead to drive in-house SCADA design for utility-scale PV, BESS, and wind projects. You will craft detailed wiring, diagrams, and BOMs, enforce SOLV standards, and mentor engineers while coordinating with OT teams for hardware requirements.

You will lead design reviews, engage with clients in technical meetings, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and NERC-related practices. Remote work is supported nationwide.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering.
• 6-8 years of engineering experience in renewable energy including industrial or utility-scale PV solar, BESS or Wind; direct SCADA experience.
• Direct experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, Networking, electrical, and/or substation designs.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols including but not limited to Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
• Advanced knowledge reading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
• Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and control system interaction with governing bodies such as: Regional Compliance Entities, Independent System Operators, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators.
• Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
• Proficiency with various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own in-house SCADA design of monitoring and control systems for large renewable energy projects.
• Develop designs in AutoCAD, Visio and related tools to produce comprehensive SCADA designs.
• Define and improve SCADA design standards and best practices.
• Own and drive review of scope documents; lead requirements gathering and translate into scalable system designs.
• Create design documentation including diagrams, port maps, powering diagrams and BOMs for SCADA racks and enclosures.
• Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawing sets and issue redlines.
• Mentor junior engineers through technical reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with SOLV OT teams to define hardware requirements and mitigate risks.
• Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce design and commissioning effort.
• Generate and maintain project documentation in Visio and AutoCAD.
