Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior SCADA Design Lead to drive in-house SCADA design for utility-scale PV, BESS, and wind projects. You will own design standards, produce and review detailed diagrams, and mentor engineers while coordinating with OT teams for hardware requirements.

This fully remote, nationwide role requires strong AutoCAD and networking expertise, experience with SCADA protocols, and a proven track record delivering reliable, compliant control system designs across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering is preferred.
• 6-8 years of engineering experience in renewable energy including industrial or utility-scale PV solar, BESS or Wind; direct SCADA engineering experience.
• Direct experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, Networking, electrical, and/or substation designs.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols including but not limited to; Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
• Advanced knowledge of reading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to, power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
• Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and control system interaction with governing bodies such as: Regional Compliance Entities, Independent System Operators, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators.
• Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
• Proficiency with various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own in-house SCADA design for utility-scale renewable energy projects (PV, Wind, BESS).
• Develop comprehensive SCADA designs using AutoCAD, Visio, and related tools.
• Define and improve SCADA design standards and practices across the team.
• Lead cross-functional requirements gathering and translate into scalable system designs.
• Prepare detailed design documentation (diagrams, port maps, powering diagrams, BOMs).
• Perform senior reviews of SCADA drawing sets and issue redlines.
• Maintain and reinforce drawing review quality standards.
• Serve as senior escalation point for complex SCADA configurations and issues.
• Mentor junior/mid-level engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with SOLV OT team to validate hardware requirements and risks.
• Drive standardization to reduce design/commissioning effort and improve reliability.
• Generate and maintain project documentation in Visio and AutoCAD.
• Create training materials per company standards.
• Provide project status updates and risk assessments to ensure delivery.
• Promote NERC compliance in design, documentation, and training.
• Operate in ambiguous spaces to guide technical approaches and cross-functional solutions.
• Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented team culture.
• Lead research on SCADA equipment and emerging tech for standards updates.
• Represent SOLV in customer meetings and technical reviews as senior SCADA SME.
• Interface with 3rd party integrators for SCADA rack design and manufacturability guidance.
• Lead system design review portion of FATs with customers.
