Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a senior SCADA Design Lead to manage in-house SCADA design for utility-scale renewable projects, including PV, BESS, and wind. You will design, review, and document SCADA systems using AutoCAD and Visio, set design standards, and mentor engineers while ensuring alignment with NERC and SOLV guidelines.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering preferred.
• 6-8 years of engineering experience in renewable energy including PV solar, BESS or wind; direct SCADA engineering experience.
• Experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, networking, electrical, and substation designs.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
• Ability to read and develop diagrams and schematics including power system, networking and control layouts.
• Knowledge of power plant operating procedures and governance with entities such as ISOs and GOs.
• Ability to work with subcontractors and field personnel.
• Proficiency with project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own in-house SCADA design for utility-scale renewable projects.
• Develop designs using AutoCAD, Visio and other tools to produce comprehensive SCADA system layouts.
• Define and improve SCADA design standards and practices.
• Gather and translate requirements into scalable system designs.
• Create design documentation including diagrams, port maps, powering diagrams and BOMs.
• Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawings and issue redlines.
• Maintain drawing review quality standards across the team.
• Serve as senior escalation point for SCADA configurations and challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers through technical reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with OT teams to define server and networking hardware requirements.
• Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce effort and improve reliability.
• Generate project documentation in Visio and AutoCAD for block diagrams, elevations, routing and wiring.
• Develop training materials per company standards.
• Provide status updates and risk assessments for successful delivery.
• Promote NERC compliance and governance in design standards and reporting.
• Operate in ambiguous spaces to guide technical approaches and cross-functional solutions.
• Lead special SCADA research projects and translate findings into design recommendations.
• Represent the team in customer meetings and technical reviews.
• Interface with 3rd party integrators to ensure SCADA functionality.
• Lead system design review portions of FATs with customers.
• Coordinate with customers, utility reps, and field techs for on-site commissioning and handoff.
• Support operations and asset management during project handoff for reliability.
