Job summary

Baptist Health System, Inc. seeks an experienced Inpatient Hospital Coder to join the Appeals & Denials Department. The role focuses on accurately assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for inpatient and observation accounts across multiple facilities.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of acute care coding experience, RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials, and proficiency with EHR systems and medical encoders. This is a remote opportunity with approved states including IN.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience in an acute care setting required.
• 3–5 years coding knowledge required.
• 3–5 years experience working in an acute care setting required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign diagnosis/procedure codes using ICD-10-CM/PCS for inpatient accounts.
• Assign CPT-4 codes for observation accounts when applicable.
• Verify and submit abstracted information to billing system for claims submission.
• Complete coding activity for 100% of discharged accounts daily to meet AR goals.
• Work with ACHA, DNFB and post-bill error reports (rebills, edits, denials) when applicable.
• Advise and coordinate with Management, CDI and HIM on coding documentation.
• Provide support to Coders, CDI and staff via mentorship and auditing/training.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, effective communication, decisive judgement with minimal supervision.
