Job summary

Baptist Health System, Inc. is seeking a Full-time Inpatient Hospital Coder to join our Appeals & Denials Department in a remote role. The coder will identify and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedures, apply CPT-4 codes for Observation accounts, and submit abstracts to the billing system for claim submission.

Role requires RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials and 3–5 years of coding knowledge. Candidate must efficiently support coding operations from a remote approved state.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign diagnosis codes using ICD-10-CM/PCS to patient accounts for inpatient optimization.
• Assign CPT-4 codes on Observation accounts where applicable.
• Verify and submit abstracted information to billing for claim submission.
• Maintain Coding A/R goals by completing coding for discharged accounts daily.
• Work with ACHA, DNFB and Post Bill Error reports (rebills, edits, denials) as needed.
• Advise and coordinate with Management, CDI and HIM on coding documentation.
• Provide mentorship and auditing/training support to other coders, CDI and staff.
• Demonstrate strong critical thinking, communication, and independent work capabilities.
• Proficient with computer systems and encoder/EHR usage.
