Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation for utility-scale solar, BESS, and related interconnection projects. This fully remote role owners the preliminary design from kickoff through handoff, coordinating with engineering consultants, procurement, and estimating to align scope, schedule, and risks.

The position requires 3+ years of electrical substation experience, a degree in electrical engineering, and strong AutoCAD/ETAP skills. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or equivalent is a nice-to-have.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Strong understanding of substation design principles, protection schemes, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design for assigned pursuits and projects, defining design basis and key assumptions.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and handbooks to identify requirements and risks.
• Serve as primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering partners and subcontractors.
• Lead development of 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Align design with estimating and scheduling, ensuring open items are resolved.
