Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects. The role oversees the preliminary design lifecycle, from BD kickoff to handoff, coordinating with engineering, procurement, and estimating teams.

Remote position with interview-discussed location expectations. The candidate will lead 10% design efforts, review specifications, and ensure alignment with PPA, interconnection and utility requirements while mentoring teammates

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
• 3+ years of electrical substation engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP or similar software.
• Strong knowledge of substation design principles and standards.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach by defining design basis, equipment, layouts, and open items for the 10% design.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and vendor inputs to identify risks and scope gaps.
• Serve as the primary substation design expert coordinating inputs from engineering, procurement, estimating, and scheduling teams.
• Lead the 10% design development including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, quantities, scope narrative, and schedule.
