Job summary

ABB in the Los Angeles area is seeking a Field Application Engineer to lead electrical project support for MV/LV switchgear, switchboards and transformers. You will work with consultants, end users, EPCs, and utilities to define needs, provide design assistance, and help specifications align with ABB solutions.

You will be the local product expert, educating customers and engineers while leveraging arc flash and short-circuit concepts.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in engineering; electrical preferred; 5+ years in electrical distribution (or 4+ with a master)
• PE certification is preferred
• Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL
• Experience in field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil/gas companies, utilities or industrial facilities
• Fluent in English; work authorization to work in the US

Responsibilities

• Define electrical project needs with consultant, end user, utility and EPC/DBC engineers; provide education on ABB solutions to gain acceptance into project specs
• Serve as local product expert for MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring
• Demonstrate short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts using tools like SKM or EasyPower
• Educate customers; speak publicly; contribute to IEEE papers and industry events to raise ABB awareness
• Represent voice of the customer to commercial and product management for future opportunities
