Job summary

SMX is seeking a federal financial reporting specialist to advise on design, construction, and validation of a federal financial statement and reconciliation solution. You will collaborate with accountants, analysts, solution architects, and developers to ensure accuracy and compliance with OMB A-136, FASAB, and USSGL standards.

The role supports 100% remote work as either a part-time or full-time contractor, offering a flexible schedule while delivering high-quality financial reporting

Qualifications

• 7+ years of federal financial management experience, ideally including time at a federal agency or federal consulting practice.
• Demonstrated experience in federal financial statement preparation and/or auditing of prepared financial statements.
• Familiarity with US federal frameworks and crosswalks (USSM, Modernization Playbook, FIBF, QSMO).
• Hands-on GTAS experience, including trial balance submission, GTAS edits, and validations.
• Knowledge of Treasury Financial Manual (TFM) and USSGL guidance including postings and crosswalks.
• Strong knowledge of OMB Circulars A-123, A-136, A-11 and related financial reporting requirements.
• Solid understanding of FASAB publications and footnote disclosures.
• Familiarity with FISCAM.
• Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements and work with the implementation team to design, build, and validate the financial statement and reconciliation solution.
• Explain proposed functionality with visual aids like mockups and process diagrams.
• Define and validate business rules behind dimensions, crosswalks, and outputs.
• Aid during software releases to ensure testing and documentation.
• Develop test plans and manage testing execution, ensuring statements and footnotes tie to data.
• Create admin and end-user documentation as needed.
