Job summary

SMX is seeking an experienced federal financial reporting specialist to advise on the design, construction, and validation of a government-focused financial statement and reconciliation solution. You will work with accountants, analysts, solution architects, and developers to build a best-in-class system.

Role requires deep knowledge of USSGL, GTAS, FASAB, and OMB circulars, with strong Excel/PowerPoint skills. This is a remote, contractor position with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• 7+ years federal financial management experience, ideally including time at a federal agency or federal consulting practice.
• DoD/GAO-like experience with federal financial statements and audits is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of US government financial management frameworks and data standards.
• Hands-on GTAS experience and crosswalk validation.
• Familiarity with FASAB, OMB Circulars, and USSGL guidance.

Responsibilities

• Advise on data model design, dimensions, and hierarchies for federal statements.
• Validate USSGL crosswalk mappings to financial statement line items.
• Ensure statements (Balance Sheet, Net Cost, Changes in Net Position, Budget Resources) meet OMB A-136 guidance.
• Design and validate footnotes and disclosures per FASAB publications.
• Advise on GTAS reconciliations and trial balance validation logic.
• Align solution with FM QSMO standards and federal requirements.
• Explain functionality with visual aids; produce process diagrams.
• Explain federal reporting processes to non-government staff.
• Manage requirements and prioritize solution roadmap with stakeholders.
