Job summary

SMX seeks a federal financial reporting specialist to advise on the design, construction, and validation of a federal statements solution aligned with FM QSMO standards. This contract role offers 100% remote work, part-time or full-time, and collaboration with accountants, solution architects, and developers.

Responsibilities include validating USSGL crosswalks, GTAS reconciliations, and disclosure footnotes, ensuring compliance with OMB Circulars and FASAB publications.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of federal financial management experience
• Experience in federal financial statement preparation or auditing
• Familiarity with USSM/Modernization Playbook and FIBF frameworks
• Hands-on GTAS experience and trial balance reconciliation
• Knowledge of TFM, USSGL guidance, and GTAS validations
• Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (experience in lieu of degree considered)

Responsibilities

• Advise on design and validation of the data model, dimensions, and hierarchies for federal statements
• Validate USSGL crosswalk mappings to financial statement line items
• Ensure accuracy of Balance Sheet, SNW, SCoNP, and Budgetary Resources
• Design footnotes and disclosures per FASAB guidance
• Advise on reconciliation tools and GTAS-related logic
• Communicate function and reporting logic with visuals
• Explain federal processes to non-government staff
• Conduct business process analysis
• Collaborate to prioritize solution roadmap
