Job summary

SMX is seeking an experienced federal financial reporting specialist to advise on design, construction, and validation of a next-generation financial statement solution for federal customers. The role involves collaboration with accountants, analysts, architects, and developers, and offers flexible remote work.

Qualifications

• 7+ years federal financial management experience, ideally including time at a federal agency or federal consulting practice (Big 4 or specialized public sector firm)
• Demonstrated experience in federal financial statement preparation and/or auditing of prepared financial statements
• Familiarity with US Federal Unified Shared Service Management (USSM) framework, Modernization Playbook, FIBF, GovOps Marketplace, and QSMOs
• Hands-on GTAS experience, including trial balance submission, FBwT reconciliation, and GTAS validations
• Knowledge of Treasury Financial Manual Volume 2 Chapter 4700 and USSGL guidance including GTAS edits and postings
• Strong working knowledge of OMB Circulars A-123/A-136/A-11 and related internal controls
• Solid understanding of FASAB publications and footnote/disclosure design
• Familiarity with FISCAM
• Excellent organizational and presentation skills
• Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Responsibilities

• Advise on design and construction of data model to support federal financial statements
• Validate USSGL crosswalks mapping to financial statement line items
• Ensure solution outputs align with Balance Sheet, SFFAC/SSFAC disclosures per OMB A-136
• Design/validate footnotes and disclosures per FASAB guidance
• Validate GTAS-related reconciliations and trial balance logic
• Ensure alignment with FM QSMO standards and federal requirements
• Explain functionality with visual aids (mockups, crosswalk maps, workflows)
• Explain federal financial reporting processes to non-government staff
• Conduct business process analysis
• Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize roadmap needs
