Job summary

SMX is seeking a seasoned Federal Financial Reporting Specialist to advise on design, construction, and validation of a next-generation financial statement and reconciliation solution for federal customers. You will work with accountants, analysts, solution architects and developers to build a best-in-class offering.

The role offers contract opportunities (part-time or full-time) with 100% remote work. 7+ years in federal finance and GTAS experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• 7+ years federal financial management experience, ideally including time at a federal agency or federal consulting practice.
• Demonstrated experience in federal financial statement preparation and/or auditing.
• Familiarity with USSM framework, Modernization Playbook and FIBF data standards.
• Hands-on GTAS experience, including trial balance submissions and validations.
• Knowledge of Treasury Manual and USSGL guidance including GTAS edits.
• Strong knowledge of OMB Circulars and FASAB publications.

Responsibilities

• Advise on data model design, dimensions, and hierarchies to support federal statements.
• Validate development of USSGL crosswalks and statement line items.
• Ensure statements align with OMB A-136, FASAB, and budget requirements.
• Design footnotes and disclosures, and validate reconciliation tools.
• Explain functionality with mockups and process diagrams to stakeholders.
• Gather requirements and help manage the solution roadmap.
