Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills platform. You will guide delivery, ensure quality, and foster growth, while partnering with Product, Customer Success, and vendors.

The role emphasizes leadership over hands-on coding, with a focus on architecture, process, and team development to meet customer expectations across a large-scale API-driven system.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiar with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL, API management and cloud computing.
• Proven track record of reliable delivery and adherence to coding/QA standards.
• Strong collaboration and communication with engineers, stakeholders, and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach a team of 5–8 engineers, owning wellbeing, performance, and output.
• Plan daily and sprint work, monitor progress, and keep projects on track.
• Troubleshoot blockers and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, and vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail.
• Maintain standards for coding, QA, code reviews, tests, and documentation.
• Provide real-time feedback and conduct regular 1:1s with team members.
• Oversee onboarding and skill development for new hires.
• Identify process improvements and escalate high-impact issues when needed.
• Champion AI-assisted development tools and responsible use across the team.
• Uphold secure, ethical, and resilient engineering practices.
