Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead 5–8 software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills team. You will guide delivery, ensure quality, and develop engineers while partnering with Product, Customer Success, and vendors.

You will influence design discussions, enforce engineering practices, and drive onboarding, performance, and growth. The role emphasizes AI-native development and secure, resilient systems, with a remote-ready setup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience and 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiar with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS and PostgreSQL and with API management, cloud computing, DevOps practices.
• Proven track record of reliable daily delivery and adherence to coding/QA standards.
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication with engineers and stakeholders.
• Experience onboarding and developing engineers and easing ramp-up times.
• Sound judgment on escalation and decision-making to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–8 engineers.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work to meet delivery schedules.
• Resolve blockers and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, and vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to customer impact.
• Maintain coding and QA standards, reviews, tests, and documentation.
• Provide real-time feedback, conduct regular 1:1s, and recognize milestones.
