Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5–8 software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills platform. You will guide day-to-day health, output, and growth, ensure quality standards, and collaborate with Product, Customer Success, and vendors to translate requirements into reliable delivery.

This role emphasizes people leadership, onboarding new engineers, and fostering secure, scalable engineering practices across Rails services, React frontends, AWS, and PostgreSQL.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• 2+ years managing or formally leading a software engineering team
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL and API management

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–8 engineers building Ruby on Rails services and React frontends
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work, monitor progress against delivery schedules
• Troubleshoot obstacles and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, and vendors
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail
• Maintain standards of quality and consistency within defined processes, including coding and QA standards
• Give real-time feedback; run regular 1:1s; recognize team milestones
• Own onboarding and skill development of new team members
• Identify and introduce process improvements at the team level
• Champion the use of AI-assisted development tools responsibly
• Uphold secure, ethical, and resilient engineering practices
