Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a 5–8 person software engineering team on the Enterprise Learning & Skills platform. You will guide design discussions, uphold engineering practices, and ensure high-quality delivery across global customers while partnering with Product, Customer Success, and vendors.

You will focus on team health, growth, onboarding, and timely delivery, with a strong emphasis on AI-assisted tooling and secure, resilient engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience and 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL; API management, cloud computing, DevOps, and software design.
• Proven track record of reliable daily delivery and meeting schedules.
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication with engineers, stakeholders, and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–8 engineers building Ruby on Rails services and React frontends; own well-being, performance, and output.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work; monitor progress against delivery schedules.
• Troubleshoot obstacles, clarify requirements, and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, and vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail to minimize customer disruption.
• Maintain coding, QA, test coverage, and team documentation standards.
