Job summary

Pearson in a remote capacity seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5–8 engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills platform. You’ll own the team’s health, output, and growth, guiding design discussions and ensuring quality and timely delivery.

You’ll plan sprints, remove blockers, mentor engineers, and partner with Product, Customer Success, and vendors to translate requirements into reliable delivery. AI-enabled development and secure coding practices are emphasized.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL and API design.
• Proven ability to guide delivery, code quality, and QA standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of engineers building Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work, monitor delivery schedules.
• Troubleshoot blockers, clarify requirements, coordinate handoffs with vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail.
• Maintain coding standards, QA coverage, tests, and team docs.
• Provide real-time feedback, 1:1s, and celebrate milestones.
• Own onboarding and skill development for new team members.
• Drive process improvements and escalate major issues when needed.
• Champion AI-assisted development tools across the team.
• Uphold secure, ethical engineering practices.
