Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a 5–8 person software team building a large-scale, API-driven platform used globally to issue and verify digital credentials. You will manage day-to-day health, output, and growth, guiding design, coding practices, and delivery with a strong emphasis on quality and security.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL and API design.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of engineers building Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work; keep projects on track with clear priorities.
• Troubleshoot blockers and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams and vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues; maintain quality and security standards.
• Provide real-time feedback, conduct 1:1s, and recognize team achievements.
• Oversee onboarding and skill development for new team members.
