Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Software Engineering Team Manager to lead four teams within PSG-CP, overseeing how content is structured, semantically enriched, transformed, and delivered at global scale. You will hire and develop engineers, set technical and operational standards, and partner with Product and Architecture to shape platform direction.

You will stay closely involved technically while focusing on people, culture, and repeatable patterns that scale impact across Pearson's lines of business.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, or a technical customer‑facing role.
• 4+ years of people management with hiring and developing engineers.
• Experience building teams from 0 to 1 in production environments.
• Experience with enterprise stakeholders and complex organizational dynamics.
• Production experience with large language models and generative AI.
• Strong AI‑first engineering practices and use of agentic coding tools.
• Depth in distributed backend systems and cloud‑native architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong observability, on‑call, security, and multi‑tenant platform discipline.
• Executive presence and ability to shift between strategic and hands‑on work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and clear narratives.

Responsibilities

• Set a high bar for technical talent, customer instinct, and AI‑first judgement.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, mentor engineers, and grow career paths.
• Staff and oversee engagements with business lines, balancing priorities.
• Own delivery across Prizm, Semantics, Transformation, and Delivery Services roadmaps.
• Qualify engagements with business leaders and manage the lifecycle.
• Review architectures and code to ensure production‑ready, reliable solutions.
• Lead technical discovery sessions and prototype solutions with the team.
• Build repeatable playbooks, repositories, templates, and knowledge base.
• Set high standards for AI usage and fit AI into how the group designs and operates.
• Define team OKRs and establish cadences to stay aligned and improving.
• Translate field insights into platform improvements and represent the platform to senior stakeholders.
