Pearson is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a 5-8 person software team responsible for a large-scale, API-driven platform used globally to issue and verify digital credentials. The role focuses on people and delivery, ensuring work meets quality standards and customer expectations.

You'll guide design discussions, manage onboarding and growth, and collaborate with Product, Customer Success, and external vendors while maintaining strong engineering practices in a remote setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Familiar with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL and API management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5-8 engineers building Ruby on Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work, monitor delivery schedules, and keep projects on track.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail and coordinate handoffs across teams and vendors.
• Maintain coding standards, QA coverage, tests, and team documentation.
• Provide real-time feedback, conduct regular 1:1s, and recognize team contributions.
• Own onboarding and skill development for new members; reduce ramp-up time.
• Champion responsible use of AI-assisted development tools for coding and testing.
