Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5–8 software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills platform. You will guide delivery, set priorities, and maintain high engineering standards while collaborating with Product, Customer Success, and external vendors.

You won’t write production code daily, but you’ll provide technical depth to guide design, champion AI-assisted tooling, ensure secure practices, and coach teammates through onboarding and growth.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Strong collaboration and communication with engineers and stakeholders.
• Experience guiding design discussions and evaluating trade-offs.
• Onboarding and developing engineers to grow team capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–8 engineers building Ruby on Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work; monitor progress and adjust priorities.
• Troubleshoot obstacles and coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, and vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to detail.
• Maintain coding standards, QA practices, test thoroughness, and team documentation.
• Provide real-time feedback; run regular 1:1s; recognize team milestones.
