Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking an Eligibility Advisor I in Columbus, TX. This role supports AES to determine eligibility for SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid, with training provided and career progression opportunities within a high-performing team.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of customer service experience, and readiness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Telework may be available and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; 60 sem/90 quarter hours preferred.
• Experience: 1 year of customer service with public contact.
• Substitution: 30 sem or 45 quarter hours may substitute for 1 year experience.
• Preferred: experience interviewing clients and gathering personal information.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants in person or by phone to collect financial and personal information for eligibility.
• Enter data into eligibility systems and verify accuracy.
• Compute and authorize benefits based on eligibility rules.
• Process work following state/federal regulations and timelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned; may include overtime.
• Be prepared for overtime and high-paced deadlines.
• Operate basic office software (Word, Outlook, Excel).
