Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and operate security controls across the enterprise data estate, including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Azure SQL. This is a hands-on role focusing on encryption, access control, and secure data pipelines.

You will work 100% remotely from approved states, collaborating with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams to protect institutional data and support incident response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, and related fields.
• Experience with data protection, encryption, and access controls is preferred.
• Proficiency with SQL and secure data handling practices.
• Ability to script and automate using platform APIs and IaC.
• Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption for data at rest and in transit; manage CMKs and key rotation.
• Enforce least-privilege access models and perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and more.
• Integrate security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and sharing workflows.
• Protect non-production environments with synthetic data and masking standards.
• Automate deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Document implementation guides, runbooks, and security best practices.
