Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and enhance controls protecting institutional data across analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Azure SQL. This 100% remote role reports to the Deputy CISO and collaborates with Security Operations and IT teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or related field, including 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security, or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Implements data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including labeling, masking, tokenization, redaction, and de-identification.
• Configures and operates encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, including CMK and key rotation.
• Implements least-privilege access models and conducts entitlement reviews to identify excessive or orphaned access.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server, data lakes, and storage services.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, sharing, and export workflows; secures service identities, connectors, private endpoints, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Automates control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation using scripting, IaC, and platform APIs.
