Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve security controls across the enterprise data estate, including platforms like Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server. This 100% remote role requires strong data protection expertise and collaboration with IT teams.

You’ll work on encryption, key management, access control, data masking, and secure data pipelines, reporting to the Deputy CISO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, information security or related field; 7+ years in information security or data engineering.
• Proficiency with SQL and database security configurations.
• Hands-on implementation of data protection controls (classification, labeling, masking, DLP).
• Scripting and automation using platform APIs and IaC to deploy controls.
• Clear written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Translate data classification and regulatory requirements into enforceable controls.
• Automate deployment, validation, and monitoring of security controls using scripting and IaC.
• Collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams to support data solutions.
