Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University seeks a Data Security Engineer to implement and operate security controls across the enterprise data estate, including analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and relational databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server. This hands-on role covers encryption, key management, access controls, data masking, and secure data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL, including permissions, schemas, and security configurations.
• Scripting and automation using platform APIs or IaC.
• Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and improve data security controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption for data at rest and in transit; manage keys, secrets, and CMKs.
• Enforce least-privilege access models and conduct entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and data sharing workflows.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Document guides, runbooks, and participate in threat modeling and secure design reviews.
