Job summary

UMB Bank is seeking a dynamic Business Development Officer – Capital Finance to originate loans and manage client proposals from prospect to funding. You will negotiate terms, review transactions for approval, and develop relationships with banks, CPAs, attorneys, and private equity firms across national markets.

You will support underwriting, provide market insights, and report to Executive Management. This role requires strong Excel/Word skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced banking

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3 years credit experience with 3 years sales experience in banking, finance or asset-based lending.
• Knowledge of marketing tools and methods (mailings, telemarketing, etc.).
• Ability to make independent and sound judgments affecting the business lines.
• Ability to read and interpret financial and budgetary documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical, highly organized, detail-oriented, able to work under pressure.
• Ability to meet firm timelines and deadlines.
• Self-motivation and urgency.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Originate loans in line with credit policy.
• Negotiate price and structure of new transactions within limits.
• Review and approve transactions before reporting to Executive Management.
• Initiate and maintain relationships with referral sources and influence centers.
• Assist in underwriting client proposals from prospect to funding.
• Seek approval from Executive Management for new client transactions.
• Market to referral sources (banks, CPAs, attorneys, PE firms, etc.).
• Visit prospective clients and prepare reports for new prospects and meetings.
• Attend regular meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
