Job summary

NMS is seeking a Cook’s Helper to support food preparation, service, and cleaning in a remote camp setting near Anchorage, AK. The role involves 12-hour shifts on a 3-week on/3-week off rotation, with duties ranging from cooking assistance to stocking and sanitary duties.

The position requires a HS diploma or GED, 2+ years in a commercial kitchen or vocational training, and certification such as Alaska Food Workers Card/ServSafe. Must be able to stand 12 hours and communicate in English.

Qualifications

• Requires high school or GED and ability to work in a commercial kitchen.
• Must obtain Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe certification on hire.
• Ability to pass pre-employment tests including drug, physical, fit-for-duty, and hearing tests.
• Must work well in a team and make decisions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and kitchen staff and coordinate activities in the food service area.
• Prepare food and cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.
• Cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, and related items as needed.
• Maintain stock levels in preparation and service areas; keep area clean and organized.
• Assist with large cleaning projects and remove garbage as required.
• Set up and break down dining areas and serving lines; support dormitory living requirements.
• Notify supervisor if safety or sanitation standards are not met.
