Job summary

NMS is seeking a Kitchen Helper to maintain sanitation, assist cooks, and perform cleaning, stocking, and serving duties in remote camp locations in Alaska. The role includes assisting with food preparation, stocking, and maintaining organized kitchen and dining areas.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, 1 year in a commercial kitchen or related training, and must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe certification upon hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 1 year of work experience in a commercial kitchen or related vocational training.
• Must obtain Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
• Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift in remote camp conditions.
• Must work well in a team and adhere to safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and coordinate activities within the food service area.
• Prepare food and cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.
• Maintain and stock products in preparation, serving, or storage areas.
• Stock food service areas with products and materials.
• Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans and store properly.
• Wash and sanitize items using appropriate cleaning methods.
• Clean and maintain dining, kitchen, and storage areas and equipment.
• Participate in periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.
• Handle garbage disposal for assigned areas.
• Set up and break down tables, snack bars, and serving lines.
• Occasionally assist with food preparation or cooking.
• May be assigned other duties as needed.
