Job summary

NMS is seeking a Kitchen Helper to maintain sanitation, assist in food preparation, stocking, and service in a remote camp kitchen environment in Alaska. The role involves long shifts, teamwork, and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.

Candidates must have kitchen experience, be able to stand 12 hours, and live in dormitory-style housing. Alaska-specific food worker certification is required before hire, with testing and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of work experience in a commercial kitchen or documented vocational training.
• Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification required upon hire.
• Pre-employment testing may include drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test; travel may be required for testing.
• Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with coworkers, customers, and clients.
• Must be able to stand for 12 hours per shift and live in dormitory-style remote camp housing.
• Contract requires English speaking, reading, writing and comprehension.

Responsibilities

• Assists cooks and others as needed and coordinates activities within a food service area.
• Prepare food and cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.
• Maintains products at proper levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.
• Stocks various food service areas with products and materials.
• Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans and stores them in an orderly manner.
• Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
• Cleans, sweeps, wipes down and maintains all dining, kitchen, or storage areas and equipment.
• May assist with large periodic cleaning projects.
