Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to lead the design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage systems for utility-scale projects. You will provide technical direction, oversee procurement, and coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant solutions.

The role is fully remote with travel as needed. A PE license is preferred and 3+ years in BESS or power systems is expected. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience focusing on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration and optimization of BESS components and grid interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis and simulation tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA and utility standards.
• Understanding of FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and provide guidance to project teams.
• Lead and manage design and engineering of BESS ensuring compliance with contracts and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies and system sizing to recommend optimal BESS configurations.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes on projects.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for scope clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings and documentation for BESS components.
• Provide engineering oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and contractors to design, procure, install and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation to optimize performance and reliability.
• Provide field engineering support during construction and testing phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and project teams on BESS design principles.
• Stay current with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals and technical consultations.
